Partner visas

The following visas are for Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens who wish for their partner or fiancé to live and work with them in Australia. The visa subclass you apply under will be dependent on whether you are currently onshore (within Australia) or offshore (outside of Australia). The requirements for these visas are:

  • Proof of an ongoing and continuing relationship.

  • You must complete police checks.

  • You must pass a medical which includes a HIV blood test and chest x-ray.


Partner Visa

This visa is for a spouse of de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia.

To lodge a valid partner visa application you must be in a de facto relationship (genuine and continuing with similarities to a marriage relationship) with your Australian partner for 12 months or more immediately prior to lodgement.

There are two visa subclass streams you can apply under depending on whether the visa applicant is onshore or offshore at the time of the application.


Prospective Marriage Visa

Subclass 300

This visa is for people that intend on marrying of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

To lodge a valid 300 application you must be engaged to marry your Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

You must marry within the first 9 months of the visa being granted and you must be outside Australia when you apply and also when the visa is granted.
